FRED GALEHOUSE

Fred

Fred Galehouse has been a member of the Land Improvement Contractors of America (LICA) since it's beginning in 1950. The Ohio chapter (OLICA) was formerly the Ohio Drainage Contractors Association of which Fred joined in 1950 also. He resides near Doylestown and is married to Arlene. They have 3 children, 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Fred's son Rick has been a part of the business since 1972.

Fred is a US Army veteran (1942-1945), having spent time in Italy, and graduated from Ohio State University in 1947 with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Degree. He worked at the Hoover Company in North Canton for 1 year, then took over Galehouse Drainage in 1948 with his father's Buckeye #1 machine. His father was also a farm drainage contractor. Fred attended the first Drainage Contractors workshop at Ohio State University in 1953 and has helped teach or advise what is now the Overholt Drainage School each year since.

Fred Galehouse has served LICA and OLICA by being national president, 1974-1975 and Ohio's president, 1984-1985. He has received OLICA's Meritorious Service Award in 1979 and LICA Contractor of the Year in 1982. Fred's name can be found in the International Drainage Hall of Fame since 1982, the Drainage Hall of Fame at Ohio State University since 1988 and the LICA Hall of Fame since 2004. He has been a member of numerous other organizations, served on many boards, written published articles and received many other awards in his lifetime. Fred Galehouse is truly an inspiration to all of us OLICA members as we strive to serve our customers and fellow members.
