Pictures from Des Moines, Iowa |
The ladies pre-tours for the Des Moines, Iowa Summer Board Meeting, July 15th and 16th, were informative and enjoyable. The Iowa LICA planned 2 great days of tours for the ladies. Our first day took us to Winterset, Iowa for a tour of the "Bridges of Madison County". We saw the Roseman, Hogback, Cedar and Cutler-Donohue Bridges while our tour guide explained how the movie was made and the bridges painted with "removable" paint to make them old looking. After lunch in the town diner, we then saw the home where John Wayne was born and his museum in Winterset. |

Thursday's ladies tour found us at the Des Moines Botanical Gardens which allowed for many close up flower pictures! We then traveled to a local winery for some wine tasting. Boy can those ladies have a good time at that!! After the winery, we headed north to Lilly Mae Chocolates in Marshalltown, Iowa. It is always interesting to see how these favorite treats are made! Our final stop was the Iowa LICA Farm where we had our opening reception and dinner while seeing the conservation projects the guys had been doing all week. It was a long day, but very enjoyable! |

Friday and Saturday found the ladies in their hospitality room (in between meetings) "Tatting" with Susan Thole as our instructor. We have found a new "skill" to take home with us and hopefully perfect as Susan has. The Barbie doll is one of her many beautiful creations. It will be years until we could come close to doing a project like that! |
